Books, artwork, proofs, galleys, correspondence, sound recordings, broadsides, periodicals, VHS tapes, promotional materials, clippings, and artifacts. The collection includes books that she worked on as an editor or book packager as well as books she recieved as gifts from the authors and illustrators, most of which are inscribed to Barbara Lucas. Original drawings often accompany the inscriptions.

Barbara Lucas worked as a children's book editor during the 1960s and 1970s for Harper and Row, Putnam, and Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich. In 1982, she created Lucas-Evans Books, a book packaging company that paired authors and illustrators together and presented to publishers for consideration.
